In the age of Lebron decisions, round-the-clock free agent reporting, and breaking sports news seemingly every other day, Shaun White followed suit by announcing this “offseason” via Instagram that he is going to try and qualify for skateboarding at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo… sort of. Partially tossing his hat in the ring for this upcoming year of skate comps without fully committing, Shaun plans on dipping his toes in the deep end and see how he does against the top skaters in the world first. In actual concrete news for the 24-hour cycle, White addressed his retirement rumors from competitive snowboarding and denied them multiple times.

“I’ve entered myself into a couple of skateboarding competitions this summer,” White said. “I haven’t officially decided to go for the Summer Olympics in 2020 in Japan, but I’m going to go try myself out at these events and see where I stack up with the other skaters and then make the decision.

“But I’m definitely not retiring from the sport of snowboarding. I love it too much. I can’t walk away just yet…

“But man, if I could make the Summer Olympic team going from winter in Korea to summer in Japan, I mean, it probably would be the ultimate for me.”
